PLEASE NOTE: Effective January 1, 2024, BSIS authorizes only the following calibers: .380, 9mm, .40, .45, .38, .357, and 10mm. This applies to initial applicants and those with existing Exposed Firearms Permits. Please reach out to BSIS directly should you have any questions regarding the authorized calibers.

* State Fees are the students responsibility. Live Scan Fee (Firearms)-$112.00, State Application Fee $100.00.
Class space is limited and appointments are required. Once you schedule your class dates you will be required to attend on the appointed dates and times.
RESCHEDULING:If you wish to change your class date, there is a $50.00 rescheduling fee so please attend on your selected class dates. Rescheduling is available up to 7 days before the scheduled class date.CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDSOnce registered, 50% of all fees are non-refundable. Those who request a refund for their selected course will be refunded 50% of the total amount paid. APPOINTMENT NO-SHOWThose who are registered for the Exposed Firearms Permit course that do not attend their selected course date(s) OR those who arrive without the required documentation will not receive a refund of any kind.
Course Summary:
This is a two-day course (8 hours classroom, 6 hours range) in the carrying and use of firearms given by a Bureau-certified firearms training instructor at a Bureau-certified training facilityPass the written and range exams given at the end of the courseBe a United States citizen (minimum age 21) or have permanent legal alien status;(Proof Required)ACCEPTABLE ID MUST BE PROVIDED ON DAY 1 OF THE CLASS- Birth Certificate, US Passport, Permanent Resident Card, Certificate of Naturalization, US Military ID or Military DD-214. For additional acceptable IDs visit the BSIS website at www.bsis.ca.gov.Submit a Firearm permit application and Firearm Live Scan form .Beginning January 1, 2022 students must complete a Firearms Assessment. The cost for this assessment is $65.00. For more information please visit www.bsis.ca.gov.Classroom Training – During your eight hours of classroom training, you will learn moral and legal aspects of firearms use, firearms nomenclature, weapons handling and shooting fundamentals, and emergency procedures. Check our class calendar for training dates.
Range Training – The six hours of range training will give you practice in safely handling and firing your weapon. Once you are issued a permit, you must re-qualify on the range twice a year before renewing your permit.
Renewals – Firearm permits expire two years from the date of issuance. An applicant must re-qualify four times during the life of the permit: twice during the first year after the date of issuance, and twice during the second year. Re-qualifications must be at least four months apart. The application for renewal should be submitted to the Bureau within 60 days before the expiration date.
WEAPON RENTAL AND AMMUNITIONFirearm rentals are available at the range. If using a rental, students must purchase range ammunition.
Students should have the necessary amount of rounds to complete the course of fire. (50 rounds for range qualification and 100 rounds for practice). Students must qualify with the type (revolver or semi-automatic) and caliber weapon that they will carry on duty. Students may qualify with more than one weapon, however, the 50 round qualifying course must be shot with each additional weapon.

Ammo only
Range ammunition for your personal firearm. All ammo must be used on the range. Ammo is sold per box. It is recommended that all student have at least 2 boxes per caliber in order to complete their firearm training.
9mm Range ammo$45 per box

Advanced Firearms Training and Firearm rental with ammo.
Student will be provided with either a 9mm or 40 caliber firearm and 2 boxes of range ammuntition for use on the range.
