GUARD CARD CERTIFICATION

Our BSIS classes are provided by our partner company Liberty Is Thinking. This is a basic course for persons interested in becoming security officers in the State of California. This class must be completed before a security officer is assigned to a post. Your LiveScan, Fingerprinting must be completed at a certified location!

Guard Card Class – Level 1 Training

Important!!! Effective January 1, 2024, all online training for the initial Guard Card course is now prohibited. Don’t be fooled by others offering training that won’t be accepted by BSIS. All our courses are in person and compliant with all BSIS regulations! See California Business & Professions Code § 7583.7(b)(1) for more information.

This is a basic course for people interested in becoming security officers in the State of California. This class must be completed before a security officer is assigned to a post.

A. POWER TO ARREST

•	Search and Seizure
•	Duty and Authority

B. APPROPRIATE USE OF FORCE (5-hours)
•	Legal Standards for Use of Force
•	De-Escalation and Interpersonal Communication Training
•	Implicit and Explicit Bias and Cultural Competency
•	Mental Health and Policing

These courses will guide you in the process of becoming a security professional while also covering the administration of the 52-question exam. We will provide the BSIS guard card registration forms and the Live scan fingerprinting forms. This is an open-book test utilizing the "Powers to Arrest and Appropriate Use of Force " training manual.

State of California Fees:
Upon successful course completion the provided forms must be sent to the state of California with a fee of $55.00 to attain your permit. This class fee does not include the State and Government (Live Scan $74.00).

Initial Exposed firearm Certification

This is a two-day course (8 hours classroom, 6 hours range) in the carrying and use of firearms given by a Bureau-certified firearms training instructor at a Bureau-certified training facilityPass the written and range exams given at the end of the course.
